Seven Key Words (ideas) in the Bible
- God—God is sovereign, holy, righteous, love, eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, immutable, truthful, and created all things, living and non-living. Exodus 34.5-7; Psalm 90.2.
Exodus 34:6 Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; Exodus 34:7 who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”
Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
- Man—God created mankind in his own image to honor God, rule creation, and fellowship with God. Genesis 1:26-28; Psalm 8.4-9
Genesis 1:27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Psalm 8:4 What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Psalm 8:5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! Psalm 8:6 You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
- Sin—Eve and then Adam sinned resulting in judgment from God, and sin passed to everyone. Genesis 3:1-7; Romans 5.12.
Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. Genesis 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—
- Christ—He came to take the judgment for sin that we deserve; he is the substitute for the whole world. John 1.29; 1 Timothy 1:15.
John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
1 Timothy 1:15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.
- Grace—God offers forgiveness, everlasting life, and abundant life as a free gift to those who take it. Romans 5.21; Ephesians 2:8-9.
Romans 5:21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; Ephesians 2:9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
- Faith—A person gains forgiveness, everlasting life, and abundant life by trusting Jesus Christ for them. John 3.16; 1 Timothy 1.16; Ephesians 2:8-9.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
1 Timothy 1:16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.
- Future—Christ returns, Resurrection, Kingdom, Judgment, Eternity. Acts 17.30-31; Hebrews 9.27; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20.11-15.
Acts 17:31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.” Acts 17:32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some began to sneer, but others said, “We shall hear you again concerning this.”
