Judging Summary

  1. God judges mankind. He has the authority, knowledge, and character to judge (Genesis 2.15-17; 4.9-13; Exodus 34.6-7; Psalm 62.12; Jeremiah 17.5-10; Ezekiel 18.30; Acts 12.20-23; Romans 2.2-16, 14.12; Galatians 6.7-10; Revelation 20.12).
  2. To judge someone unjustly is to criticize, to ascribe guilt, and to pass condemnation as if one were the righteous standard and had that authority when, in reality, he has neither the authority, knowledge, or moral strength to do so. The general principle is that we are not to judge others (Matthew 7.1-5; Romans 2.1-3; John 7.24; 1 Corinthians 4.2-5; 10.29; Colossians 2.16).
  3. We are to know the difference between
    • Moral right and wrong (Matthew 7.1-5; John 8.1-11; 2 Thessalonians 3.6),
    • Legal right and wrong (Luke 19.22; John 7.51; Acts 26.6), and
    • Correct and false doctrine (Hebrews 5.14; 2 Thessalonians 2.15; 1 Timothy 1.20; 6.3-5; 2 Timothy 4.2,10, 14-15; Titus 1.9; 1 John 4.1; Colossians 2.8,16). To do this we evaluate, select, and judge based upon evidence. We are to correct false doctrine when God gives the authority and opportunity.
